Celebrity Empire

Carrie Underwood was born on March 10th 1983 in Checotah, Oklahoma.  Her father, Stephen was a paper mill supervisor and her mother, Carole was an elementary school teacher.  She has two sisters, Shanna and Stephanie.  Underwood grew up on a farm and lived a very country lifestyle. 

Underwood began singing at her church at the age of three and sang solos in her school plays.  In middle school she won talent contests and in high school she joined the music program.  At age 13, she made her first studio recording, but was never able to capitalize because of funding.  After graduating her high school as Salutatorian she went onto Northern State University with hopes of singing some day, but majored in mass communication with an emphasis in journalism.  

During the four years at the university, she was titled runner-up for Miss NSU and entered several beauty pageants.  She was also a sorority girl for Sigma, Sigma Sigma Sorority.  After finishing her degree she went back to Oklahoma where she made the decision to audition for American Idol.

Going through the auditioning process was hard for all the contestants, but America could really see star quality in young Carrie Underwood.  She was the first country singer to win on the show and has proven to so many that she is true champion.
